Bukit Timah Market and Food Centre

Bukit Timah Food Centre to be demolished in 2024; integrated development to be built on current site

Bukit Timah Market and Food Centre is scheduled for demolition in 2024 to pave the way for an integrated development. In response to CNA’s inquiries, a spokesperson for the People’s Association (PA) confirmed that the estimated timeline for stallholders to transition from the current food centre to the interim hawker centre and market is set for the second half of 2024.

A briefing was held on March 13 at Bukit Timah Community Club to inform the hawkers of a delay in completing the interim hawker centre and market, compared to the initial projections. This adjustment is due to site conditions and technical complexities, and more time is required to finalize the design and secure funding, according to the PA spokesperson.

Additionally, the hawkers were apprised that PA, along with various agencies, had identified an additional purpose for the interim hawker centre and market, which will house public sector facilities on the second and third floors. The operations of the hawkers on the ground floor will remain unaffected.

“All current stallholders at the Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre will have the opportunity to secure a stall at the new integrated development, whether or not they opt to relocate to the interim hawker centre and market,” the PA spokesperson emphasized.

In the meantime, Bukit Timah Community Club will continue to operate at its existing location on 20 Toh Yi Road until the integrated development is ready.

As part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) Master Plan 2019 for the central region, Bukit Timah is set to receive a new comprehensive integrated facility featuring a community club, a revitalized market, and a hawker centre in close proximity to Beauty World MRT station. This development will also introduce various new amenities, including an indoor sports hall, a community library, and facilities catering to the elderly, with the aim of enhancing the quality of life in the area.
